The most useful way to judge a player is to look at the attributes behind the rating. A player expecting every 90-rated card to have elite pace may find Rodri underwhelming. However, for a CDM role, defensive awareness, interceptions, passing, and physical strength can be more relevant than sprint speed.
This is a good example of why calling a player “overrated” based only on pace would miss the purpose of the rating.
Harry Kane: The Pace Question
Harry Kane has a 90 OVR rating and an exceptional 94 Shooting rating, the highest among the men’s players listed in EA’s ratings database. His 83 Passing, 82 Dribbling, and 83 Physical also give him useful qualities beyond finishing.
However, his 62 Pace creates an obvious difference between Kane and faster meta-style attackers. Players who rely heavily on through balls and counterattacks may value his card differently from players who prefer possession, crossing, and controlled attacks.
His rating reflects elite shooting and well-rounded attacking qualities rather than raw speed.
Michael Olise: One of the Biggest Rating Jumps
Michael Olise is one of the more interesting cases in the FC 27 ratings. He reaches 90 OVR with 83 Pace, 82 Shooting, 89 Passing, and 91 Dribbling.
The combination gives him a technical profile that can work particularly well in midfield or wide attacking positions. His rating also represents a significant increase compared with his FC 26 rating.
Rather than focusing only on the four-point overall increase, it is more useful to consider what his new attribute combination means for his role in a team.
How to Read FC 27 Ratings Properly
Instead of asking whether a player is simply “overrated” or “underrated,” compare the card with the job you need it to perform.
Look at:
- Pace and acceleration for attackers
- Shooting and finishing for forwards
- Dribbling and ball control for creators
- Passing for midfielders
- Defending and physical attributes for defensive players

- Position flexibility
